September 5 • Elewana Tarangire Treetops, Randilen (B, L, D)
Designated by the Maasai people, Randilen is a community wildlife management area of 327 km2, which extends organically from Tarangire National Park’s north-eastern boundary and adheres to strict ecological principles that benefit both wildlife and the community. In the dry season between July and October, wildlife is concentrated around a few water sources, particularly the Tarangire River Valley. Wildlife moves into the surrounding hills during the green season, which comes alive with lushness, flowering blooms, epic skies, and exuberant wildlife. Aside from elephant and buffalo, species most likely to be seen are giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, waterbuck, bushbuck, impala, lesser kudu, eland and warthog. Among the predators are lion and leopard, as well as jackals and mongoose.

September 7 • Ngorongoro Oldeani Mountain Lodge, Karatu (B, L, D)
Karatu: Travellers heading for the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater will pass through the town of Karatu in the green hills of Tanzania’s northern highlands. Presided over by the towering Oldeani Volcano, this small, colourful town serves as a popular overnight stop for visitors exploring the area’s many game parks. The town offers a variety of activities including browsing the bustling marketplace, sampling beer at a local brewery, visiting a traditional homestead, or taking a guided walk through the Ngorongoro Forest in search of waterfalls and caves.

A Maasai boma is a type of traditional homestead used by the Maasai people of East Africa. Lake Manyara: A shallow, alkaline lake set at the base of the Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is a scenic spectacle of pods of hippos, pink flamingos and over 400 species of waterfowl or migrant birds that flock to the salty shore, a birdwatcher’s paradise. In addition to the lake, enjoy game drives and exploring the stunning natural mosaic of grassy floodplains, rocky escarpment, acacia woodland
and hot springs of Lake Manyara National Park. Observe elephant, buffalo, cheetah, hippo, Masai giraffe, wildebeest, impala, zebra, warthogs, hyenas, and tree-climbing lions.

Crater Floor Tour Full Day – Ngorongoro, Tanzania
The Ngorongoro Crater, a large, unbroken, unflooded volcanic caldera is the pride of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The crater, which formed when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed on itself, is 610m (2,000 ft) deep and its floor covers 260km2 (100 sq mi).
Descend into the crater through a lush highland forest, with magnificent birdlife in a startling number of tree species. Discover a large variety of grazing herbivores on the grassy crater floor, as well as the predators that are attracted by this abundant supply of prey. Depending on the time of year, you may see huge flocks of pink flamingo around the shores of the shallow Lake Magadi and hippo in the surrounding swamp.
September 9 • Ngorongoro Oldeani Mountain Lodge, Karatu (B, L, D)

Lake Ayasi: Tucked between the Kidero Mountains in the south and the Eyasi Escarpment in the north, Lake Eyasi is situated in a remote, dry, arid landscape just south of Tanzania’s renowned Serengeti National Park. This seasonal lake features dry salt beds and is home to a variety of birdlife such as flamingos and pelicans. Beautiful surroundings of woodlands, forests, and ancient baobabs beckon to be explored. Learn about local cultures by visiting the pastoralist Datoga people as well as the nomadic hunter-gatherer Hadzabe group.
September 10 • Elewana Serengeti Migration Camp, Northern Serengeti (B, L, D)
Northern Serengeti: The Serengeti together with Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Park from Africa’s most famous wildlife park. The image of acacia trees on an endless grass plain epitomizes Africa for many, and then add a Masai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation need go no further. Unlike the southern plains of the Serengeti that dry out, forcing all but the hardiest of species to leave, the Northern Serengeti remains lush and green throughout the year. The annual wildebeest migration through the Serengeti and the Masai Mara is the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet – with more than a million animals following the rains. From July though October the Migration is in the Northern Serengeti with daily crossings of the Mara River. The game viewing does not end at the Mara River; there are large prides of lion as well as elephant, giraffe, gazelles and eland, to mention a few.

Stop at Olduvai Gorge Museum and site. The Olduvai Gorge is a paleoanthropological site of major significance, where an old river has carved away the rock to expose layer upon layer of volcanic soil. This is where Dr Louis and Mary Leakey found the remains of hominids “Nutcracker Man”, “Tool Making Man” and “Lucy”, discoveries that have helped to fill some of the missing links in the chain of human evolution and added more evidence to the theory of modern man’s emergence in Africa.
Nicknamed the “Cradle of Mankind” because it’s believed to be the site of found remains of the first human begins to walk on Earth.

Group price is based on minimum of 12 guests. Trips with less than 12 guests may be subject to cancellation. Pricing is preliminary and will be confirmed September 1, 2024 or sooner. Should the price increase, you will have the option to cancel with full refund of deposit paid.
Cancellations: 91 days and over prior to departure – loss of per person deposit(s), 90 –61 days prior to departure – 60% per person of the total trip cost, 60 – 31 days prior to departure 90% per person of the total trip cost, 30 days to Day of departure/no show – 100% per person of the total trip cost.
Additional supplier penalties may apply depending on the date of cancellation.
Amendments: An administration fee of $125 may apply to any changes made to your booking once confirmed, including but not limited to changes in pre/post trip accommodation and transfers. Please note that name changes are not allowed and flight changes are subject to availability and airline policies.
Refunds: No refund is available if cancellations occur after the trip has commenced or in respect to any trips, accommodation, meals or any other services not utilized.
Itinerary Changes & Trip Cancellation: Further Afield Travel and Tours reserves the right to vary itineraries should circumstances dictate, as well as cancel or reschedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements, or circumstances beyond its control. Hotels listed may be replaced with similar accommodation should the noted hotel not be available at time of confirmation. The advertised tours require minimum numbers to depart. Should these not be met, Further Afield Travel and Tours reserves the right to cancel arrangements.
