SICILY MALTA / SAMPLE ITINERARY
Day 1 – Depart home city, overnight flight to Sicily
Day 2 – Sicily
Arrive at Catania airport, transfer by coach to Taormina and then visit this charming hillside town with its typical narrow streets. See the picturesque 13th century Duomo, the ancient Greek Amphitheatre and enjoy fantastic views of the Gulf and of Mount Etna. Welcome dinner at local restaurant.
Day 3 – Siracusa
Travel along the coast on a full day tour to Siracusa. The port was once a powerful Greek fortress feared throughout the Mediterranean old World. The visit includes the white Greek Theatre, the Garden of Paradise and the Ear of Dionysus with its extraordinary acoustics. Stop in Castelmola to enjoy a fantastic panoramic view of Taormina and the Ionian Sea. Return to Taormina. Evening at leisure.
Day 4 – Mount Etna
Excursion to Mount Etna – Europe’s largest active volcano, approximately 3350 meters high. To the ancient Greeks, Mount Etna was the realm of Vulcan, God of Fire and the home of the one-eyed monster know as the Cyclops. Over 1200 square meters of Etna’s surface is covered with solidified lava. Today, enjoy a half-day Sicilian cooking class with dinner to follow.
Day 5 – Cefalù - Palermo
Our journey takes us first to the charming town of Cefalù. On arrival we have some free time to wander the medieval streets that are lined with cafés and restaurants before visiting the Norman Basilica, located close to the sea, looking more like a fortress on the outside. We then proceed along the Northern coast to Palermo.
Day 6 – Palermo
Guided tour of Palermo, the capital of Sicily. It has been invaded many times and this is evident in the many architectural styles that can be seen. We will visit the Cathedral, red domed Moorish church of St. John of the Hermits, the Norman Palace with its Arabic style and the Palatine and following a break for lunch, the hilltop Monreale Abbey, commissioned by William II in 1174, the Norman ruler of Sicily. The interior is full of splendid golden mosaics. Remainder of the afternoon and evening free in Palermo.
Day 7 – Segesta – Agrigento
Today we travel first to Segesta to admire the well-preserved 5th century Greek Doric Temple. We then continue south to Agrigento where we will have a guided tour of the Valley of the Temples, one of Sicily’s most historical attractions. The archaeological park is made up of 7 temples – Hera, Concordia, Heracles, Olympian Zeus, Castor and Pollux, Hephaestos, Demeter and Asclepius. Evening free. Overnight at the romantic 18th century boutique hotel, Hotel Baglio della Luna. With a view over the Valley of the Temples enjoy this authentic oasis of comfort and relaxation.
Day 8 – Ragusa - Pozzallo
We travel East along the Mediterranean coast and will stop at a local winery in the Ragusa region. Here we sample some of the rich red and white wines produced in this locality along with some local great Sicilian food. In the afternoon transfer to the port of Pozzalllo and board the ferry to Malta.

Arrive Malta, transfer to your hotel and check in.
Day 9 – Valletta
Begin the day with a walking tour of Valletta, Malta’s capital and a World Heritage site - Valletta is nothing short of an open-air museum. Visit St. John’s Cathedral and the Lascaris War rooms. This afternoon we visit Casa Rocca Piccola, a 16th- century palace and home of the noble de Piro family. Complete the afternoon as we watch the saluting of battery at the Upper Barrakka Gardens, a great photo opportunity offering a view of the Grand Harbour. Enjoy an evening of leisure.
Day 10 – Blue Grotto and Hagar Qim Temple
Today we head to the Hagar Qim Temple, set on a hilltop overlooking the sea and the islet of Fifla, not more than 2 km south-west of the village of Qrendi. At the bottom of the hill, only 500m away, lies another remarkable temple site, Mnajdra found above the Southern cliffs. Near the village of Zurrieq we visit the Blue Grotto, a number of sea caves on the southern coast of Malta. It is here, where several caverns mirror the brilliant phosphorescent colours of the underwater flora. Enjoy some leisure time in the fishing village Marsaxlokk before transferring back to the hotel. Afternoon and evening at leisure.
Day 11- Gozo
Today we will take the ferry to Gozo. Upon arrival, the group will board jeeps (drivers provided) and discover the most scenic views of Malta’s sister Island and it’s amazing countryside. During the safari, you will visit sites such as the Basillica of Ta’ Pinu and more. A wine-tasting experience will take place at tal-Massar, a family run boutique winery- taste 4 different wines and 3 authentic Gozitan finger foods. Today lunch is served at Ta’ Rikardu Farm where you will also enjoy a milking and cheese making experience.
Day 12– Diar il Bniét – Farmers Tour and tasting
Set off to Dingli, Malta where amongst the gnarled olive trees and low-hanging carob branches, there is a family run farm set in an idyllic valley on a sun-kissed island, producing some of Mediterranean’s finest and most iconic food. Today you will experience the real life of some of the Maltese people, while enjoying some delicious tastings. Stop at the Dingli Cliffs of Malta. Return to the hotel. Return to the hotel and freshen up for the Farewell Dinner.
This evening you will enjoy an evening walking tour in Mdina – the old capital of Malta and known as the “Silent City”. Dinner will be served at Bacchus, which is set within the fortifications of Mdina, a beautiful historical building consisting of 2 chambers which date back to the times of the Romans on the island. Enjoy a typical Mediterranean dinner in a relaxed yet elegant ambiance.
Day 13 - Malta/Home City
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for a flight to your home city. (B)
